Grass seed broadcast into standing maize with a drone!? 🤯

We trialled this idea last year to see how well it would work through the drone.

We joined forces with like minded farmers to put the drone to the test and to quite frankly see if it was going to be any good or not!! 🤣

We are delighted to say IT WAS A SUCCESS!!

Post harvest there was a cover of grass throughout the fields which was awesome to see!

The reasons the farmers were prepared to roll the dice and take a chance on us aerially applying seed for them is because they understand the benefits of having a cover crop..

Retain nutrients/fix nitrogen in the soil post harvest ✅

Improve soil structure and health also increasing the amount of beneficial insects ✅

A little bit fresh is an understatement!! 🥶

A few photos from a recent job undertaken for the @woodlandtrust working with the @autospraysystems crew and fellow pilots within the network as part of the Beyond Restoration conservation project supported by Innovate UK.

We were challenged with the task of spreading predominately acorns over an 11 hectare site situated on Cornish moorland.

Ground conditions and terrain were challenging which is where the drone came into its own. Being able to fly above granite rocks, wet areas and across steep banks where normal machinery wouldn’t be able to gain access safely was key.

Trial projects like this are essential and exiting. The potential for drones to really do some good within conservation/restoration is huge. Work flow is dramatically increased due to how quick the drone can cover technical terrain.

The UK government set a target to create 30,000 hectares of new woodland per year across the UK by 2025 as part of its net-zero strategy. Each nation has consistently failed at attempting to meet this.

Utilising new technologies is needed. With some more trials and refining I personally think drones can be a game changer within this sector. 🌳 🌲 🚁

We successfully completed our first full year in business and what a year it’s been!

From not being too sure where this journey would take me and wondering if I had bitten off more than I could chew; jumping out of a stable job to pursue a dream of working for myself/family, I can safely say it’s one of the best choices I have made.

Exited to have completed a weeks Beyond Visual Line of Sight training with @autospraysystems we all had a brilliant time on a great course.

BVLOS operations open the door to us commercially allowing us to take on larger projects, operating at greater distances over tougher terrain where VLOS isn’t practical.

It’s not all spray drones! Here’s a mapping job we completed for HW Forestry the other day. We were able to accurately map a 20ha block of woodland and access the wind blown damage. Highlighting the total damage of the area, fire roads that were blocked etc allowing the client to plan their next move with confidence.
